Bernardo Faria confirms retirement

With the lists and brackets defined for another edition of the IBJJF Worlds 2018, somebody can notice the absence of a few names.
Absent from the super-heavyweight contest, 2015 absolute champion Bernardo Faria (Alliance) has confirmed that he does not intend to come back.
Man, the truth is I’m retired from competition, indeed,” he said. “I have other projects that are growing a lot, like my website of videos with BJJ techniques, and I’m focused on that. Because of that, I think last year marked in fact my last championship.”
Besides Bernardo, there are other missing black-belts on the brackets provided by the federation. Erberth Santos, Victor Genovesi and José Carlos Cocó and Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” are among the top-tier athletes we will not have the privilege of seeing in this year’s Worlds.

Caio Terra Injured, Unable To Compete At Worlds

In an unfortunate turn of events, 2x gi World Champion Caio Terra has been forced to pull out of this weekend's big event.

Here's what Caio had to say about the situation:

"I got severely injured and won’t be able to compete. My ribs popped and I kept training for one month with so much pain, I couldn’t even play half guard. Then Thursday I started feeling pain in my shoulder; I went to the doctor and found out I had torn a muscle. I can’t even lift my arm up.

I didn’t want to make it a big deal. Our team has so many people who have a good chance and I don’t want to be a distraction. The attention should be on them”.
