The UFC has just announced that they have signed ADCC
2015 champion Davi Ramos. He will be facing another BJJ world champion in
Sergio Moraes at UFC Fight Night 106 event in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Max Griffin was originally scheduled to face Moraes
but he had to pull out because of an injury.Moraes (11-2-1) is undefeated as a
welterweight in the UFC with five wins and one draw.
Ramos (6-1), has 5 submission wins, and has fought in
Bellator.
Davi Ramos is one of the top BJJ competitors in the
world having won the 2015 ADCC in spectacular fashion, submitting Lucas Lepri
with a jumping armbar. He is also a 4x world pro champion and 2x Pan No G
champion. He has beaten and submitted much heavier champions such as Jeff
Monson and Joao Assis.
In 2011 Davi Ramos broke on the international scene
with an amazing performance at the Grapplers Quest championship in Las Vegas
where he won the absolute division and his weight class submitting 6 of his 7 opponents
and some major stars such as ADCC champs Jeff Monson & Joao Assis.
Ramos has been previously quoted saying MMA is bad for
Jiu-Jitsu:
“I am passionate about Jiu-Jitsu. I think all who
practice it are passionate about it. It’s very difficult to live from Jiu-Jitsu
generated income alone today and have good finances. It’s easier to migrate
from the gentle art to MMA, and MMA has higher earning potential. So I see
these transitions from big names of gentle art as something initially bad for
Jiu-Jitsu, because we lost great athletes”.
