The official registration for one of the biggest European championships “Swedish Open BJJ 2018” will be opened on June 1st.
The annual “Swedish Open BJJ 2018” tournament will take place for the 13th time this year. It will be held on 17-18 November at the “Stenungsund” sports arena in Stockholm.
The championship is opened to all weight categories and divisions: children, juveniles, adults and masters. The IBJJF rules apply to the challenge. This is a great opportunity for “Swedish Open BJJ 2018” participants to demonstrate their skills of BJJ at the European sports arena.

Ukrainian fighters came back from the “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018”

Ukrainian fighters from SC “Borets”/ZR Team (Ukraine) successfully represented own country at the “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018” championship.

Yaroslav Blazhko, Roman Nepota and Serhii Krasovskyi competed with highly qualified sportsmen at one of the most prestigious tournaments for all BJJ fighters -“Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018”, that took place in Los Angeles (USA).

This time Ukrainian fighters didn’t win and coach Ievgen Skyrda also noted that he even didn’t count on victory. Nevertheless it was a great and successful experience. According to Ievgen, there were many Brazilian fighters at the championship, who started practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu from a very early age. So he didn’t expect five-year’ experienced team to win at the championship of such a high level. Instead of medals, Ukrainian fighters gained equally valuable acquisition, namely, experience and knowledge.

«This tournament is the most difficult and interesting in our competitive practice. The “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018” championship definitely surpasses European BJJ tournaments by the level of competitors. I’m sure, that every sportsman who aims to succeed in BJJ should once in a while take part in American competition like «Pan IBJJF».

As for us, we have learned this lesson and made conclusions on what we should focus on more and what mistakes to correct in future. Participation in the “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018” has helped us to reconsider our skills and showed the level we should strive for. We also thank all who unconditionally support us during championships. And special thanks to our sponsor Biotexcom company, with assistance of which we were able to participate at the “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF 2018”», - summed up Ukrainian coach, Ievgen Skyrda.

Only four Americans have ever won the adult black belt men's IBJJF World Championship title.

The field of U.S. competitors at the 2018 IBJJF World Championship is one of the most talent-rich ever and don't be surprised if you see more Americans than ever before on the podium.

Mikey Musumeci – Light-Feather (Brasa CTA)

Mikey Musumeci is the fourth-ever male American black belt world champion. The Brasa CTA representative has only competed in select superfights since winning the title last year in order to focus on college, but make no mistake; Musumeci is absolutely the favorite coming into Worlds this year.

Shane Jamil Hill-Taylor – Featherweight (TLI)

Shane Jamil Hill-Taylor is a Team Lloyd Irvin standout who narrowly missed a finals berth at Worlds last year after a hotly debated loss to Cobrinha. Since then, Hill-Taylor has placed second at Pan Championships and won numerous IBJJF Open events.

Edwin Najmi – Lightweight (Gracie Barra)

Edwin Najmi is a finisher. The Romulo Barral black belt has stated many times that he's not interested in winning fights by advantage—the mission is submissions. Najmi has been on a tear all year long with impressive performances at various events, both open and invitational.

Keenan Cornelius – Heavyweight (Atos)

Keenan Cornelius is one of the most widely studied and innovative athletes of the modern era. But he's missing one thing that would cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats: a black belt world championship title.

Keenan Cornelius will compete in Worlds championship

Keenan Cornelius waited until three days before the cutoff, but has confirmed his participation at the World Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship 2018.
We were waiting until now to see which division Keenan would decide to compete in – given that he did Euros as a heavyweight but moved up to super for Pans. We have our answer: Keenan will compete in the heavyweight division.
Right now there are 20 competitors in total signed up for the heavyweight division, and it is lining up to be ridiculously stacked. First off, there’s Felipe Pena to contend with, one of the top pound-for-pound grapplers (gi or no-gi) in the world. Pena comes off a hot streak where he won major events such as the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro, Marianas Open and more.
A quick scan through the list turns up an absolute ton of talent: Tim Spriggs, Jackson Sousa, Adam Wardzinski, Dimitrius Souza, Tarsis Humphreys, Patrick Gaudio, Tex Johnson and Fellipe Andrew to name but a few.

Watch an ex-UFC fighter win at the Paris Open

In parallel with the San Diego Open, last Saturday the IBJJF’s Paris Open was also held.
Apart from Adam Wardzinski, who bagged gold both in the heavyweight and open divisions, another name drew people’s attention.
Yan Cabral, a black-belt shaped by Nova União and presently the leader of Aranha Association, did not hold back. A former UFC fighter with some memorable wins in mixed martial arts (such as his 2012 encounter with Kazushi Sakuraba), the master-aged Yan signed up as an adult.
In the middleweight final, he found Japan’s Kenji Sette. After working en garde and coming up, Yan managed to take the back, stabilize and sink a choke.
