ZR Team in London – Ukrainian fighters won gold!

 

Ukrainian fighters of the SC “Borets” / ZR Team Kropivnitskiy Yaroslav Blazhko and Roman Nepota won gold medals during the Open Championship in Great Britain! 

The best representatives of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from all over the world gathered together for the gold in England. Ukrainian fighters have met on the mat with the representatives of Brazil, Greece, Italy and Germany.

Yaroslav Blazhko had 4 fights – one fight he clinched and 3 fights he defeated on points. Roman Nepota also had 4 fights which he won by technical superiority.

Fighters and coach of SC “Borets” /ZR Team Kropivnitskiy are satisfied with competition in London and its results for Ukraine. Fighters wrote words of thank on their social media pages. They have thanked friends, relatives and sponsor (“BioTexCom” company) for great support and faith in their victory. In addition, fighters have noted they are happy of these victories nevertheless they are not ready to rest and will continue to glorify their country abroad.

How Jiu-Jitsu can change the life

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has been gaining popularity in the recent years in Ukraine. 

Thus, for example, only in Kiev there are several dozens of the BJJ sections. Moreover the first Ukrainian Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will be opened in Kropivnitskii city in the nearest future.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu changes not only the country's sport map, but also people's lives. The programmer Ievgen Skyrda even left his IT profession because of his new passion – BJJ. Now he is a coach in the SC “Borets” (Kropivnitskii). Ievgen Skyrda has already raised the champion of Europe and three World champions. Moreover, recently three more sportsmen have become champions during the tournament that took place in Great Britain.  

“I was engaged in the IT sphere for more than 10 years, but had left it about two years ago,” - Skyrda said. – “I have completely devoted myself to my club and fighters. I think that person must do what he wants and loves. Even though now I earn less, but I am really happy person”.

Before the coaching carrier Skyrda had practiced judo. But after a knee injury, he started to go in for BJJ. He received a great experience from the Ukrainian masters and even studied BJJ in Brazil. 

The ex-programmer plans to create the Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for children in Kropivnitskii city. It will be a three-floored school for about 500 people. Now the club is visited by more than 150 participants. 

It is worth noting, that BJJ is very popular in the Western world. For example, the headquarter of Google has a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym. Office workers are coached by Milton Bastos (the owner of the black belt). The same BJJ trainings are also conducted for the Facebook employees.

Ukrainian winners of the “New York IBJJF Pro 2017”

 

The prestigious international “New York IBJJF Pro” championship was held in New York, USA recently. 

The most competitive fighters of Brazilian jiu-jitsu have shown their great technical skills at this championship. Ukrainian fighters of SC “Borets” / ZR Team Kropivnitskiy Yaroslav Blazhko and Roman Nepota were also among participants. Ukrainians have impressed both referees and audience by their high technique. Multiple champions Roman Nepota and Yaroslav Blazhko have shown once again they are rather strong fighters and can confidently compete with world sportsmen. 

Roman Nepota became the winner of the “New York IBJJF Pro” both in his weight category and in the absolute category among the blue belts. The athlete held 4 fights and all of them he won by technical superiority. In the final of the absolute category Nepota competed with the Brazilian sportsman. The fight was ended with an excellent choke by the Ukrainian fighter.

Yaroslav Blazhko also took gold at the championship. Blazhko held 4 successful fights and in all of them he received confident victory by points. Moreover, the Ukrainian fighter also competed in the absolute category with the Brazilian fighter Wilson Moreira (IBJJF 2017 World Heavyweight Champion). The opponent was very strong, both physically and technically, but Yaroslav shown a great result even though he lost this fight.

According to the coach of the SC “Borets” / ZR Team, Ievgen Skyrda, the level of development and popularity of Brazilian jiu-jitsu in America is extremely high. A great number of prestigious championships are held here. And the strongest world sportsmen gather in America to compete for the gold medals. Ukrainian athletes will return to America in March 2018 to take part in the “Pan Jiu-Jitsu IBJJF Championship”.

Jiu-jitsu start in Ukraine

Today there are many schools and clubs of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Ukraine. Talented Ukrainian fighters proudly represent their country at the European and world championships. But, how did the Jiu-Jitsu originated in Ukraine?

Thanks to a number of masters who practiced jiu-jitsu in Ukraine in the 80s of the 20th century, this sport is so popular today. Athletes Victor Gutov, Viktor Kraevsky, Arkady Kudryashov, Viktor Malyutenko, Sergei Protasenko were among the pioneers who practiced and popularized jiu-jitsu on the territory of Ukraine.

In 1998 the all-Ukrainian public organization “Jiu-Jitsu Association of Ukraine” was founded. It became possible due to efforts of a group of like-minded and enthusiasts. Since then, all-Ukrainian championships, cups, seminars and various tournaments are launched in Ukraine.

Today there are more than 9 thousand sports clubs in Ukraine where everyone can teach the subtleties of jiu-jitsu. In addition, the techniques of BJJ are now in the arsenal of Ukrainian special services training sessions.

Ukrainian fighter participated at the “Fuji Europe BJJ Challange»

Ukrainian jiu-jitsu fighter, Yaroslav Blazhko, will participate at the prestigious international tournament “Fuji Europe BJJ Challenge”. 

Championship will include three weight categories: 76 kg, 88 kg and 100 kg. 16 fighters from different countries will fight in each weight category. Only the most titled fighters from all over the world were invited to participate in the “Fuji Europe BJJ Challenge” tournament.

The winners will receive a cash prize of 3000€ and international recognition.

Recently the SC “Borets” has started formation of the BJJ group for 4-years-old children. The head coach says there are many parents who bring their children to the BJJ clubs as well as kids visit the BJJ classes with a great interest.

“Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu will give your child not only excellent physical development, but will temper his character and educate a kind of self-discipline and self-confidence. He will learn how to make quick decisions in any critical situation. If our children will live according to the saying ”A sound mind in a sound body” they will have a successful future!” – Ievgen Skyrda said.

It must be noted, recently sportsmen of the SC «Borets» / ZR Team, Serhii Krasovskyi and Serhii Rusnak, became the world champions 2017 among the Juveniles at the Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Abu Dhabi! At the championship each of 14-year-old fighters had four fights and won all of them confidently. Previously a run of success was opened by a 7-year-old Nikita Petushinskyi. He is also a part of the SC “Borets”. He became the world champion in his age group at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2017.

Yaroslav Blazhko vs Italo Moura at the “Fuji Europe Challenge” in Netherlands

 

Ukrainian fighter from SC “Borets”/ZR Team Kropivnitskiy successfully qualified at the “Fuji Europe Challenge” championship. 

In semifinal Yaroslav Blazhko faced with two-time world champion, European champion and the leader of the IBJJF rating among the purple belts (adult) – Italo Moura. Yaroslav has lost out to Brazilian in this battle. However, Yaroslav’s coach, Ievgen Skyrda, noted that for the first time in coaching career he met fighter of such level as Moura.

“Italo Moura has been practicing Jiu-Jitsu from childhood, and I’m sure he’s the future legend of Jiu-Jitsu”, – Ievgen Skyrda commented.

Concerning Yaroslav’s loss Ukrainian coach said the following: “We don’t concede technically and physically to Brazilians and sportsmen of such level. But we give way to them mentally. We put too much pressure on ourselves and more afraid to lose rather want to win. We will work this out. I would like to thank all who support us! We always feel your positive vibes!”
